I received this email from Sprint and called them to tell them what I think
and that this is a disservice to all of us.

Important message regarding future changes to PCS Mail service.

Dear Valued Customer,

Sprint is committed to keeping you informed of changes to your wireless
products and services and providing you with the best solutions to meet your
needs.

Our records indicate that you currently use our free email service, PCS
Mail. Through our efforts to continually evaluate our offerings, the
decision was made to discontinue PCS Mail on December 31, 2008.

To ensure you are prepared for this change and have continued access to your
emails, listed below are four recommended steps to take before December 31,
2008:
1. Sign up for a new email account with an email provider
2. Transfer your existing emails to your new email account
3. Save and transfer your contacts
4. Install our free Mobile Email for instant access to your email accounts
Please visit http://www.sprint.com/pcsmail to learn more about these steps
and possible service alternatives.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward
to continuing to serve your communication needs.

Sincerely,
Sprint Product Management

To me, it's okay. I use Yahoo for my email. I use Sprint for my phone and
text messaging. I can access my Yahoo and corporate email from my Sprint
phone. I haven't used Sprint PCS Mail. Just my 2cents.

I can see it. It's a burden to maintain, and with so many free
e-mail options out there, it's no longer really value-added.

It's hard to compete with free stuff that's on people's
computers already. Just ask Netscape.

I have no problem with them dumping it. I go to google for reading
email on my phone.

Ja, I could still email my daughter's lap top. They have wifi at
her university, but she does not always have her lap top with her. It
is/was nice to be able to email her phone. I guess I will have to learn
how to text message, but you can't do forwarding or multiple recipients
when text messaging, right?

I don't thank that will change. They are just dropping their own e-mail
service. You can still send an e-mail to her phone.

The real question for me is, does this constitute a material change in
our agreement, allowing me to cancel without the onerous termination fee?

I would say no. I hate to say no, but I'd say no.

When Sprint dropped their voice command service my brother tried to use
that change to get out his contract--without success. Of course the
carrier will always claim that the discontinuation of a service doesn't
constitute a change in the terms. You can always break the contract and
let it go to court if they try to get the termination fee from you.
