Best Phone for Verizon Network?

So is the E815 really still a contender two and a half years down the
road? I did like the E815, though admittedly, my use was pretty much
limited to making and receiving calls, didn't do much fancy stuff. I
found it a bit bulky, especially with the OEM leather case and clip. I
was hoping there'd be a killer, ultra-slim phone on the market to
dethrone the E815, but perhaps I should stick with it.

Has anyone tried the Voyager, the iPhone knock-off?

Consider the Moto v6c if there is any chance of your travelling overseas.
This is Verizon's current world phone (that is, it support GSM 900/1800
overseas as well as EV-DO/1XRTT/CDMA 800/1900 in North America) and is a
good deal better than the Motorola A840 which was its predecessor.

It's a slider instead of a flip. Oh well.

It has the Verizon UI, but all the familiar secret Motorola codes still
work (including debug mode!).

It has full Bluetooth, and you can load your own ringtones to it (just
rename the file extension to be .qcp instead of .mid or .mp3).

It'll run VZW Navigator.

The GSM side is SIM-locked to Verizon's (actually, Vodafone Netherlands)
SIM, but they will give you the unlock code if you ask and agree that they
aren't responsible if you use some other company's SIM (they'll FAX you
the agreement). Note that it does NOT have North American GSM bands, so
you can't use it to roam onto AT&T or T-Mobile.

Performance has been quite good, and IMHO better than my old Motorola
A840.

Of course, your mileage may vary...

My son hated his Razr. He said it was the worst phone he ever had. Of
course he used to be with Verizon but his company now supplies his phone
and it's Cingular. Terrible reception in the heart of Metro-New Jersey.

If Sprint's network was so good you wouldn't have to force roam.

Not exactly the best of both worlds. All things being equal, distance
from tower etc., the 800 Mhz signal of Verizon has better building
penetration than the 1900 signal of Sprint. Same is true for GSM
carriers as far as building penetration goes.

I have found that to be true with my V9M even in places with "iffy"
reception.

As stated in this thread, the V9M is a great replacement for the e815!

I'll second that. We had 4 e815's... My wife and I upgraded to the v9m,
and my kids stayed with the 815's.

The v9m is a little pricey, but I haven't regretted upgrading from the
815. I think the Verizon UI is incredibly sucky... and that's my
biggest complaint.

Reception is about equal to the 815, and battery life isn't quite as
good - but not horrible, either.

I used to go 4 days without charging the 815. My v9m is every 3 days...
or a little more if I'm playing with it.

Nice features, and a great form factor. I was looking for something
that wasn't nearly as bulky to carry in a pocket, and the v9m fits that
bill nicely.

That's why I flashed my V9M to the US Cellular firmware. A much improved
GUI, and I can read text messages from the outer display.

Does VzW still carry the LG 8300? I think it's a really nice phone with
excellent sound quality and battery life. Some reviewers knocked it for its
build quality, claiming that it sacrificed too much in driving down size and
weight. But my wife and I have had ours for more than a year, and they're
still going strong.

If you don't like the Verizon UI, get a Blackberry Pearl. It gives you the
option of using several variants of the original BB UI.

Verizon's changes to the BB UI are mostly superficial anyway. The Pearl's menu
structure is vast and complex, and I guess Verizon wasn't up for tackling a
total re-do of the OS interface. So even with the VzW UI, you don't find
yourself dropping into the usual quagmires of "Get It Now" advertising, etc.
