My wife just got the Motorola Razr phone that has a USB port. I
plugged in
a USB cable that fit in the port on the phone but when I run the
Motorola
software the phone is not found. If the USB cable fits in the port it
should work, right? Does anyone know any reason why it is not working?
Thanks!!

I assume that you're talking about Mobile Phone Tools software. Did you plug
the phone in before running the software? If so, go to www.bvrp.com for
details on how to correctt the situation and do it right.

I recently had the same problem when I had a phone replaced under
warranty. I finally called the Motorola Support Center. If you can
tolerate/understand "Indian/English", call 1-800-331-6456 and they will
walk you through it and if necessary provide you with a download site to
make sure you have the latest software version (4.04b). I just did this,
and it now appears to work fine. I just downloaded some pictures and a
new ring tone today. The only problem is, you must save the downloaded
software 'cause you will no longer have a CD to fall back on.

Thanks, John!
How does one know if they have the latest software and how does one get
it if they don't? I thought if I bought the software from Motorola and
"Registered", they would notify me when a new version came out. Only
once since I bought the software have I been notified that a later
version was available, and that was months ago -- back when it was still
3.something!!
Appreciate your help!!

What is the correct procedure or sequence when connecting and disconnecting
the phone ?
If I boot up with the phone switched on and connected to the USB port then I have
no problems. But after I have disconnected the phone subsequent attempts to
reconnect usually fail. I've tried all combinations of stopping / starting the program
and connecting / disconnecting the phone, but it seems the only sure way to get the
program to see the phone is to reboot.
Phone is a V220 and software is the latest level. |

Make sure the phone is on with Bluetooth enabled before starting MPT.

There is no Bluetooth on a V220. I've tried connecting a switched-on phone then starting
MPT, but if it has been previously connected MPT says "phone not found".
(I always stop MPT before disconnecting the phone.) |

Sorry. Given USB, my guess would be possible driver issue.

I tried for 2 to 3 hours yesterday, switching off the computer and phone then rebooting
with the phone on and connected. Eventually I gave up in disgust.
This morning it came up fine first time and the phone and computer have been happily chatting
to each other all day!! |
