I currently have an archaic plan that provides 1300 minutes with
unlimited web/text for $57.50/month. I don't use even half of those
minutes. I use a Palm Treo, but would prefer a switch to the Pre's
smaller size and larger screen. I want the PRE because it is compatible
with some of my needed Palm OS apps.
However, Sprint informs me that the transition requires a change to a
$63/month plan, which provides only 450 minutes. I could probably live
with that amount of time by changing a few habits.
In addition to the larger screen, are there enough benefits to be worth
the difference?
Thanks! |

Do you think that buying the PRE outright, I would retain my original
plan and features? That's smart. Unfortunately, it's also obvious and I
didn't realize it.

Well, it turns out that Sprint allows use of the PRE only with the
expanded and expensive data plan. Even if I buy one outright, with no
contract, I must pay approximately FOUR TIMES the per-minute price
compared with my current deal.
After more than a decade, it's off to PagePlus, I suppose. |

Exactly right. I use my Treo 700P with a very nice (out-of-contract)
SERO plan (500 anytime minutes, unlimited data, unlimited text,
picturemail, $30/month). I won a Palm Pre, free and clear of
contract, at Comic-Con. When I finally received it, I contacted
Sprint. They confirmed that the Pre cannot be activated on the SERO
plan. The best deal they could offer me was that 450 minute thing at
$50/month for the first 2 years, going up to $70/month upon contract
expiration.
I declined. Sold the Pre on eBay. I'm still happy with my Treo,
though the Pre would have had a distinct cool factor... |
