Not hatred of AT&T by that particular hacker, but rather hatred of
AT&T by potential iPhone customers. Remember, AT&T wireline did
backflips for the Bush Crime family regarding NSA surveillance.

At the moment, Blackberry doesn't have any phones with HSDPA. I rather
have the RIM OS and build quality. Moto phones have a cheap made in
China feel.

It's not hatred of AT&T per se, it's that many people want to buy
iPhones for the browser, mainly using Wi-Fi, and don't want to pay the
high monthly cost. The unlocked iPhone allows you to use a very low
priced prepaid plan from T-Mobile.

A heavy text messaging and e-mail user would not buy an iPhone, but the
iPhone has a better web browser.

That can't be it- there's already the "no phone service" hack that
surfaced immediately, and frankly, while T-Mo does have a better
prepaid plan than AT&T, AT&T's isn't that expensive, and at least has
(expensive) EDGE data available as a backup. Unlocking is a lot of
work to save a couple of bucks on prepaid servive.

I suspect the hacking of the iPhone is mostly an Everest thing...
(both for the challenge and "because it's there.") plus our basic
human revulsion at being told by someone else what you can and can't
do! Wink

That tiny thing?

Most iPhone users report after a few days they can whiz through typing
anything on the iPhone virtual keyboard. Just something new to learn.

Sorry, thats just not true; many have. Any day now the announcement
will be made that 1 Million iPhones have been sold.

I'm sure it will. It just remains to be seen if the announcement
comes from Apple, AT&T, or "Oxford"! Wink

I find it so much easier to type on my iPhone than on my Treo. Keyboard
is larger and much more intuitively laid out.

It's more than a couple of bucks. After going "gold" you can have
T-Mobile prepaid for $10 per year, while AT&T is $100/year minimum, AFAICS.

The main reason to buy the current generation of iPhone is for the web
browser over WiFi. It's not a good device for texting, and it lacks the
applications available on true PDA phones. Web use on EDGE is very slow.
Still, even if you buy it for the WiFi and web browser it's nice to have
the phone part work. If you want the phone portion to work without
paying a lot, T-Mobile is the way to go.

Reviewers who spent 5 minutes with the iPhone keyboard don't like it.

Yep, it takes about a week to get proficient with it, at least it did for
me. I now can type as fast, or faster, on my iPhone than I did with my Treo.

Just yesterday I needed to fire off a quick email and after sending it was
amazed how fast I had typed it. Auto-correct corrected at least 25% of the
words.

When I first got the iPhone I used one finger, and often waited for the
verification balloon to appear to ensure I was hitting the right character
(which happened a lot the first few days). But as time went by I started to
just type away, as fast as possible, and let auto-correct do its thing. My
typing speed increased dramatically.

I don't know exactly when I started using both thumbs to type on the
iPhone--it just sorta happened. Weird, because I didn't often type that way
on my Treo. I have large hands, and made too many mistakes . The iPhone's
capacitive touch screen needs only the slightest touch/tap so maybe that
makes it easier to handle for me.

Anything to slam AT&T. Why am I not surprised.

Jeez, stating the fact that T-Mobile's prepaid costs less than AT&T's
prepaid, and that EDGE is slow, is somehow slamming AT&T?

Unlike Navas, I am not shilling for any carrier, I just state the facts.

EGPRS(EDGE) isn't "slow", and you are slamming AT&T at every
opportunity.

>Unlike Navas, I am not shilling for any carrier, I just state the facts.

You are actually misstating the "facts", conducting a personal vendetta
against GSM in general and AT&T in particular, and attacking me for
setting the record straight.

Tell us how he misstated the facts. (You can't)
How did you state the facts ? What info did you tell us to set the record
straight ? (Nothing)

EDGE Is slow. read broadband reports. Iphone on EDGE is slow. Unless you
think 100 KBPS Is Fast.
In fact, anything using EDGE is slow. It's not a iphone problem.
