If you are going to be in a situation where you aren't going to take calls
for let's say a half hour, is it better for battery life to power down the
phone for a half hour or does it take less juice just to leave the phone
turned on? Where is the break-even point...10 minutes, 1 hour etc. Probably
not important but I've always been curious.

It would depend a lot on how many bells and whistles go off each time
you power up. The first thing I did when I got my new phone was to
turn off the start-up tones and shorten the display time to the
minimum. Then it would depend on how strong of a signal you have in
the immediate area and how long the phone searches for a signal. It
would also depend on how strong the signal is while the phone is on,
since the weaker the signal, the more power the phone uses to keep in
contact with the nearest tower. It woud also make a difference if you
missed several calls while the phone was off, and the phone was
communicating with the voicemail service to show voicemail calls.
As long as the phone battery will last 24 hours, and you can charge it
overnight, why bother to turn it off?

Wilbur my lad, you've got way too much time on your hands. My phone stands
by for the better part of a week. Why bother turning it off for an hour? I
mean do you turn off your car engine while at a red light?

The main reason not to turn your phone off is that you'll inevitably forget
to turn it back on after your "battery vacation" and miss a key call from an
important customer thereby losing a $25,000 order Wink
