And if MS did anything like this to give consumers "the best possible
experience" they are called monopolistic. And MS doesn't even build the
hardware

Wow Way to go Apple.

Lets get Firefox on the iPhone, and then Chrome etc etc

Why does Apple get such a free ride??

Thanks for the article it's an eye opener

We can we assume that? I think a more reasonable assumption is the 8500 is
the CURRENT number, and one that has steadily grown since day one.

Remember the 8500 includes app updates. It stands to reason that more
updates are submitted from the current field of 65,000 extant apps, than
the 15000 six months ago, or the 1000 or so a year ago.

Hey, I love a good iPhone-bash as much as anyone, but I prefer them based
in reality. Your conjecture seems seriously flawed to me. How could "95%"
of apps be approved within two weeks if your math suggests more than half
of them haven't even been reviewed yet?

Microsoft tells hardware makers what to do. In fact, Microsoft
tells Apple what to do. When Apple disagreed with what Microsoft
wanted it to do, Microsoft used its monopoly power like a club to
hit apple over the head until Apple relented. Very few technically
oriented personal computer savvy people in the world say Microsoft
is not a monopoly. After being proved to have monopoly control
over PC software, the only reason Microsoft was given a free ride
is because George Bush Jr entered the White House and trashed the
big antitrust suit remedy. Nine years later, now everyone knows
Bush Jr failed his job as referee.

When Ronald Reagan entered office, he continued the breakup of
AT&T that led to an explosion in communications options. Since
then, for some strange reason, Republicans have changed from
"power through competition" to "dog-eat-dog" and "might makes
right" and "every man for himself". During the Bush Jr
administration, the "me-first" society flourished, the same one
that we did away with by electing Ronald Reagan. Some people seem
to believe that competition does not require a referee, I think
they are gravely mistaken.

One can only assume, from the lack of date data, that the 8500 apps is an
AVERAGE, not a peak number. It may, however, be the mean, not average, but
they're pretty close in a sample this size.

Given that, my conjecture stands as written, though the numbers may be off
+/- 10-15%, the conclusion stands as written.

Because Apple is a religion, not just a corporation.
