trouble with logitech mx400 mouse

I just got a new logitech 400 mouse. The downloaded driver software
doesn't work. The cursor will move, but no mouse button will work.
Apple's own system software recognizes the mouse. I've tried
uninstalling and redownloading the software, no go. Likewise with using
the mouse on different USB ports, both on the mac itself, and on the
powered USB hub.

Ironically, the normal Mac mouse is made by Logitech also and of course,
has no problems.

Anyone else using an MX400 corded (not cordless) mouse with Mac OS X 10.4.7?

I'd send this question to Logitech but their online support page won't
accept my login "inernal error" so I can't register to send a question.


BTW, has anyone noticed a real difference between a Logitech optical and
laser mouse?
