slide show settings - starting slide

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I'm trying to use some example code from the AppleScript references:

set theSlideShowSet to slide show settings of active presentation
set starting slide of theSlideShowSet to 2
run slide show theSlideShowSet

I can't get PP to respect the starting slide value -- it is being set (I've tested by reading it back) -- PP just seems to ignore it and starts on the first slide regardless.

Any help would be appreciated.
