I have a powermacG5 which is running os 10.4.11 and I'd like to run os 9
on it. My problem is that I cant' boot my os 9 cd. I've read a lot and I
found that the 10.4 system wants 9.1. When I try to boot with os 9
disks it always boots os X and asks for me to put in my password.

Anyone know how I can work this out?

More particulars
dual 2 GHz 1GB DDR SDRam
Two internal Hard drives

Thank you in advance

Bill

Classic should be an optional install from the installation media that
came with the G5.

Thank you Andreas,

The problem with using the original discs is that 1) I don't have them
and 2) they are OS X 10.2.7. Final cut studio2 won't run on 10.2.

On my G4 I used to be able to install 9.0 on to my second internal HD
and simply change the startup disc to it. I could also upgrade the os 9
with no problem.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again
Bill

do you not have them or are they 10.2.7?

No problem if they are 10.2.7; you can still install Classic from them.

If you don't have them, you have a problem.

A G4 is not a G5. G4's except the ones with FireWire800 can boot from OS
9, G5's can't.

Not really... the OS 9 drivers are probably not installed on the G5 hard
disk, so you could not the G5 in Firewire Target modus on the G4 and
install OS 9 from there...

Cheers

so I solved the classic problem. I borrowed a friends additional
installs disc for the G5. I loaded and works.

Thanks for your help Andreas!
