Hi
I'm trying to install Linux using the redhat 4 installer cds. VPC resets
itself with a processor exeption during initial load of the installer.
Any clues?

Several of us are having instability issues with VPC7.0.2 and Tiger
10.4.2. Your problem may have nothing to do with Redhat installation
other than it is processor intensive.

Thanks' for the immediate help, I wasn't aware of this situation bevor…

I'm having a 2x2GHz G5 - is there something I can do about in the setup
or such - perhaps installing from physical cd instead of a .iso could
make the boot of the installer slower?

Are you referring to RH Enterprise 4?

Normally, I'd suggest that a problem during the install would be
indicitive of self modifying code, and suggest that you try toggling
compatibility mode from the scripts menu. However, self modifying code
is generally only seen these days as part of some sort of anti-piracy
measures and this is linux. It seems less likely.

You might still give it a try, but I suspect it won't make a difference.

Yea, the kernel found a state that it was not prepared in handling
in the realm of the virtual processor, causing the virtual processor
to trip.

Go find another operating system to run, or... you could try fixing
and building your own kernel... but you'll need a real PC to build
the kernel while you debug under Virtual PC, yadda yadda yaa!
A long-whinded process which you are probably not interested in doing!
