Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>printing (more info?)

Been using various models of HP OfficeJet all-in-one inkjet machines at
home for years, and have hated them forever.

The software they ship with these all in one machines is poortly
quality controlled, and locks up the machine regularly. The machines
themselves are very tempremental, and have numerous problems with ink
and paper handling. While I have had great experince with HP laser
printers over the years, it seems like the cheap-consumer heritage of
the inkjet based machines keeps them from being the solid reliable
workhorse I have been looking for.

But on the plus side, there is one machine which is useful for faxing
scanning and printing. And whenever I look around, there isn't any
other machine whch does all that, that will lower itself to speak to
Macs. So even though I hate them, I keep replacing one hated HP
machine with another.

I'm about to throw my latest one away, and am wondering if HP has a new
machine that people have good experince with, or if there is a better
altenative out there. Does anyone know?

I have a Brother MFC-7820N. Network compatible (out of the box). This is
a B/W-laser that supports both Macs and PCs - works well with OS X. I can
fax, scan (including OCR), and print from both my iBook and my Dell notebook.

I like the print quality, and scanning seems okay too. FAX is standard G3,
although I think it can send color faxes also. On my iBook, I've used it
with 10.4.2 - 10.4.4.

Currently retailing for about $280.

dont forget your options when it comes to commerical printers too!
100% risk free guarantee on all prints, have it your way printing - where you can choose every option and variable if you want, right down to paper stock and weight, gloss or no gloss, professional stock photos or graphic design used on your pieces and more! Compare that to doing it yourself at home on standard typing paper and your competitors will get a leg up on you if youre a 'home printer'. If you're trying to business network, imagine how the businesses feel when they are all using professional high-end printing, and you bring in your home-made typing paper 'prints'.

Let your business grow up and get fancy! Stop doing your printing at home when everybody else is using professional high-end printers!

at least check out all your options before doing it home-made. Very Happy
