Can I print from Mac OS 9 to an HP DeskJet on Windows 2000..

I have an HP DeskJet 990 attached to a Windows 2000 Pro system, and I've set
up the LPD ("TCP/IP Printing Service") on Windows 2000. Is there any way I
can print to this from Mac OS 9.2.2 (without additional costly software such
as Dave)?

I can use the Desktop Printer Utility to set up a connection to this printer
service, but all I've managed to do is print postscript as text.

Obviously, the network connection is there, but is there any way to drive
the DeskJet the way it wants to be driven?
