making music with unix

Say, does anybody know of a Unix utility that lets me type in
attack/decay/sustain/release envelopes so I can port some of my old,
obsolete C-64 music programs over to the Mac?

Yes, that *would* make for a pretty strange Unix utility.

Does one exist?
