As is almost always the case in the wonderful world of computers, the
best answer is 'it depends'.

Assuming the LaCie is either USB2 or Firewire, and the PC (which I
assume is running some version of Windows, and not Linux (etc)-- you
didn't mention) has hardware support for that interface AND an operating
system version recent enough to include support for that interface (such
as Win XP), then it should be relatively straightforward:

-- connect the drive to the PC; because it's formatted for Mac and
Windows doesn't read Mac drives (without special, 3rd-party software),
it won't show up in My Computer.
-- in WinXP or Win2000, located the Administrative Tools and choose the
Computer Management item. Click on its Storage/Disk Management (in the
left-hand pane). The drive should (eventually) show up in the list in
the lower-right hand pane. Right-click and select Format from the pop-up
menu.

Good luck!

The Lacie 250 MB drive is SCSI. The interface is a 25 pin SCSI
interface. PC's that DO have SCSI interfaces installed generally do not
utilize the 25 pin interface. They can be found, but they are rare.

The simplest option would be to put a SCSI adaptor with a 25 pin
interface (or use a cable that connects to the external HDD and whatever
SCSI interface is installed on the PC) in the computer and plug it in to
see what happens.

If portability of the drive is not an issue, MY approach would be to
disassemble the Lacie case, remove the hard drive, and install the drive
internally using a standard 50 pin SCSI cable on a standard SCSI
adapter.

Problem is, that's an awful lot of effort to go through for a 250 MB
hard drive.

thanks for all the information! i'll try hooking it up and seeing what
happens. she has a dell laptop that's running XP and she has a SCSI
card that she uses for connecting her ipod so that may all work. we'll
see.

i think i see where i got confused. SCSI is so 1994 i forgot about it.
the drive isn't scsi, it's firewire so i think i just was thinking that
i would use the card she uses to connect the ipod via firewire and hope
it works.

erm, the iPod connects via USB2 or IEEE1394 Firewire, it does not
connect through SCSI
