Post subject: iBook Queries & Confusion From AirPort
Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>hardware>misc (more info?)

I have been looking at iBook's for a few months now and am finally
ready to purchase one. I have chosen on the 12" version, mainly
becasue of price. I just wanted to ask a few questions to make sure
the specifications will suit how I use the laptop.

The iBook has a G4 1.2Ghz processor and 256 Ram (although I may
upgrade to 512). I was wondering whether this will be sufficient
enough for my needs:

The main use for the laptop would be mainly used for the internet
wirelessly sharing a broadband connection and numeruos IM apps, as
well as using it for gaming. I'm pretty sure these specs will be
enough although being unfamiliar to macs i wanted to check.

Also the iBook will have an AiPort 802.11g etc. Card built. I need to
know what equipment i will need to share a broadband connection
between a Windows running desktop PC and the iBook. I have been
confused by this because of all the different avaiable routers and
AirPort products. If you could tell me about the above questions I
would be most grateful, Cheers

I've had my 12" Ibook for 3 months now running Tiger 10.4.1 and have
512Megs installed, I would up the standard HD to 60Gig, 30 is just not
enough. I can have Word (Office 2004), ICal(Calendar), Safari(Browser),
and Halime(Newsgroup reader) and Entourage(kinda Outlook) running with
no noticeable slow down. Though I do have to close every thing down to
run Unreal 2004 and play over the net.

The iBook is not a game machine so don't buy one thinking it is, hold
out for the PS3.

To share internet access I'm using a £50 ($80) wired router/modem hard
wired to my pc with a Linksys G wireless access point connected to the
router from which I access the Internet on my iBook and Dell Axim PDA.
I wouldn't internet share from your PC, as once its off your iBook
will also disconnected from the Internet.
