Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsmedia>player>mac (more info?)

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Intel

i'm using windows media player for mac OS X 9 series

after unstall MPlayer and NicePlayer i can't hear audio from .wmv file,while my friend who using the same player can hear

this file recored by camtasia studio

- Audio codec = windows media audio voice 9
- video codec = windows media video 9

try to uninstall WMP 9 by follow this instruction <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278373>

and then try to open windows media sample file

and i've got an error message

"this file may not play correctly because it was compressed by using a codec that is not supported"

so,my WMP 9 is damage or got some problems ??

I don't think it is related.
WMP is a standalone application. It doesn't affect Mplayer or NicePlayer
in any way.
If I'm not mistaking, NicePlayer is actually QuickTIme based. Mplayer,
of course uses the mplayer project sources.


WMP 9 is obsolete, buggy and officially abandonned by MS. MS themselves
recommend using the flip4Mac WMV codecs.
You can go back to the MS site and look for the WMV codecs for
QuickTime. They are free and work fairly well. They add WMV and WMA
support in all QuickTime-based applications.
This should solve the problem for NicePlayer (and 'm not sure anything
can be done for Mplayer to get it to read WM9 files - unless it can also
use QuickTime for decoding).
