A Digital Video Camcorder (DV Camcorder) that accepts input from a VCR
and will output via firewire to your Mac. A lot of models can do this.

That is a good idea if you have a DV camcorder or you can borrow one
from a friend. Another option is an analog-to-DV converter box such as
the one shown at
