Perhaps the other drives weren't being written to when the power failed.

A drive in a FireWire enclosure isn't inherently less (or more) reliable
than an internal drive. An external drive is better for backup because
it can be unmounted, powered down, and stored off site or in a fire safe
when not in use.
If you're concerned about data preservation, you should be running your
Mac and external storage devices from an uninterruptible power supply.
