Post subject: Can't establish Internet Access with VPC 7
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>mac>virtualpc (more info?)

Sorry if this question is redundant, I tried to solve my problem by
reading previous posts in the group, but after spending 3 hours last
night trying various solutions, I still cannot get VPC 7.01 to access
the web.
Here's the details.
I'm running OS X Panther (don't know the version, I'm not at home now)
on a iMac G5. I've installed VPC 7 on it without other problems, and
loaded a Dell OEM verision of Win XP. I want to use VPC to run the
Quicken 05 Premier on my iMac, so I don't loose a lot of data making
the PC to Mac transition. Quicken seems to work fine on VPC 7, but I
cannot reach the web using either its built in software, or IExplorer
v. 6. (FYI, I subscribe to Verizon DSL)
Some data does seem to be getting through at extremely low
throughputs; I've been able to ping yahoo and google from the XP
command line, but I cannot open websites using IE.
Mac is set to "shared network"; PC is set up for a LAN and to
automatically detect network server settings.
Any idea what I should try next?
Many thanks,
Mark

FYI: you can't legally use a Dell OEM version of Windows with XP,
you're violating the OEM license agreement.

You mentioned you tried some solutions on the newsgroup? Was one of
them adjusting the MTU in Windows?

Steve:
No, did not adjust MTU in Win. What's that?
Thanks for the helping hand and warning about OEM version of XP.
