Can anyone know of a program out there which will allow one to edit .m4p
files from iTMS?
Specifically, I'm looking for something which will allow me to split a
file into several parts. I've purchased several albums from iTMS which
contain "hidden" bonus tracks, meaning essentially that the final .m4p
file included with the album consists of two separate songs with as much
as ten minutes of silence in the middle. I'd like to be able to split
these into two separate files and chuck the silence altogether.
I'd prefer to avoid converting to another format and reencoding into AAC
to avoid degradation.
Any pointers would be appreciated.

QuickTime Pro should be able to do it, as long as the creator of the MP4
hasn't used DRM to block editing:

I would imagine a tool like iMovie would allow you to do that as well,
but I could be mistaken about iMovie specifically, as I don't use it
much at all.

You're probably going to have to convert them to AIFF for editing. Toast
will do this on-the-fly (apparently) and there's something call Audio
Hijack and I've heard that iMovie will also convert. For actual editing,
try Audacity (it's free).

The question was about m4p (not mp4) -- so DRM is definitely an issue
since m4p denotes a protected AAC track.

Find the file in Finder, duplicate it and rename the duplicate file.
Then drag the new file into iTunes. I will come up as a second copy,
but since both contain the same DRM parameters for your computer, both
will play. Rename the new file to the name of the hidden track. Then
get info, click on options. On the original, set the stop time for the
end of the first song. On the renamed duplicate file, set the start
time for the start of the hidden track. Drag the desired songs to the
desired playlists, click play and enjoy.
