The article was written in early 2006 so I think it's for 10.4; use
caution if you're going to try it on 10.5. I'm not sure what software
might have changed and I doubt keeping pppd working is a real high
priority for Apple.
You also might want to see if there's a newer compiled version of
mgetty floating around, although I did check the download link in the
article and it still works.
Bear in mind that you will be lucky to get 33.6 kbps out of that
setup; you won't get 56 kbps if the modems on both end of the
connection are plugged into analog lines. But you will be able to get
in and browse your files using the terminal (actually that part is
easy; setting up PPP is more complex).
