Mac Word no longer provides filters for .wpd files [and hasn't since the
Office 2001 release, IIRC). If you have access to Windows PC you can open
the files there and save as .doc or - if the PC is running Office 2007 - you
can save as .docx format.

Depending on your overall needs it may be worth investing in:

BTW: There's a specific group for Mac Word at
