Hi, all--
I have a question about a HyperCard-based application(?), and it would
appear that this certainly might be the place to ask. To summarize,
before you waste your time reading all the way through this, I'm
looking for some help converting a HC stack to a standalone app.
Some years back -- about 1991, I would guess -- I came across a HC
stack called HyperYahtzee 5, by a Middlesex, UK-based programmer named
Ian Summerfield. Obviously, it was a port of the traditional dice game,
and he was distributing it as shareware.
It was an instant hit with my wife, and I happily sent Ian the
shareware fee post haste -- anything to keep my wife happy! It was such
a hit, in fact, that she *still* plays a few rounds on her G4 under OS
X 10.3.9 every morning before going to work. The stack has been a
little flaky since, well, since the introduction of OS 9 (it doesn't
want to quit properly), but other than that, it still runs fine.
Anyway, today I came across an article by a fellow named Joe Wilkins at
macinstruct.com entitled "Converting HyperCard Stacks to Standalone
Apps Using Revolution". I had no IDEA you could do that!
I read the article and immediately glazed -- I didn't understand 80% of
what he was talking about -- but I was excited to learn that a stack
*could* be converted to an OS X app.
HyperCard is the last Classic app my wife uses, and I'm sure she would
be _thrilled_ if we could find a way to convert it to a standalone OS X
app. Unfortunately, I'm not a programmer (nor do I play one on TV), and
have no inclination to learn at this point in my life, and it's the
only HC stack we use...
So the question, since original author Ian Summerfield is no longer
reachable, is there anyone who might be interested in pointing out a
way to get this converted, or be willing to take the project on? I
ain't rich, but I'd be happy to somehow compensate someone who'd be
able to help with this.
(Yes, there are other Yahtzee-like apps for OS X, but she really loves
this one... )
If this might be you, please respond here, or drop me a note at "bill"
at "quinn-pulver" dot com, and thanks for reading this!
Regards,
--Bill Pulver |

Is this "HyperYahtzee 5" available somewhere on the web?

Non, je ne l'ai pas vu.
I have not seen it anywhere for many years. I _have_, however, possibly
gotten a line on where Ian Summerfield might be -- I came across a
couple of postings by him, including, of all places, a Revolution
mailing list.
If you'd like, I can send you a copy of the stack.
Merci,

Oh, I knew what everybody meant. At least I _think_ I do...
Sorry I've been unable to answer promptly -- it's deadline time, and
I've been slaving over a hot keyboard literally 'round the clock since,
ummm, Friday, I think.
Anyway, I'll get copies in the mail, and merci...

PS -- Sylvain, your English is NOT bad, and I hope you don't think I'm
making fun of it. It's just that I studied French for five years in
school, and have little chance to use it. When I do, I feel so
self-conscious about it that I often check myself with a dictionary or
babelfish.altavista.com before committing myself...
Au revoir...

Thanks, Jerry/Bill/Guillaume I'll wait patiently for your
e-mail, take it easy.
Best,
Mark
