Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Hello; on my windows xp laptop from work, i'm unable to connect from my home iMac.

On the xp machine, under the System control panel, Remote tab, the computer is configured to allow remote desktop. In the "select remote users" section, it indicates that {my network domain at work}\{my windows user name} already has access.

On my mac, I've allowed the Remote Deskop Connection under my Security/firewall system preference (I use the "Set access for specific services and applications" firewall option).

On my mac, in the first dialog box where it prompts for a computer to connect, I enter the IP address of my xp (it is a local IP address on my wireless home network, e.g. 10.0.1.190), then, in the subsequent dialog box:

USER NAME: {my network domain at work}\{my windows user name}
PASSWORD: {the password for my windows user on my xp machine}
DOMAIN: the local IP address, e.g 10.0.1.190 is already populated

I then get the error message:
The Mac cannot connect to the Windows-based computer...

Any advice?

Thank you -

I should clarify: I'm trying to connect to my work laptop when it is at home on my local wireless network...NOT over the internet.

Have you enabled incoming rdp calls in the firewall on the XP laptop?
Can you ping the laptop from your Mac?
