My page is set for Custom 6 x 4.5. I cannot reset to standard 8.5 x 11. Any
attempt to reset the page gives me a message "increasing right margin causes
last column to become too narrow in some sections having unevenly space
columns". Regardless of how I try to change the page setup, I get that
message and will not allow me to change my page size. This is very
frustrating. Any help greatly appreciated.

If that is happening on every new document, it is time to trash your
normal template. It looks like one section in your normal has gone
multi-column on you. Although "too narrow" when moving from 4.5 inches
to 8.5 inches wide is a bit of a puzzle to me.

Instead of trashing the Normal template, try this. Open it up. Select All.
Go to Format Columns and set to 1. Even if it is already set to 1, reset
it. Go to File Page Setup. Change the paper size to the desired default. In
the Normal template, space backspace so that Word knows there is a change to
be saved. Save and Close.

Create a new doc and see if it has the right paper size and behaves. It if
doesn't, Quit Word, drag the Normal template to the desktop (you may want it
later, it holds customizations, so should never be trashed directly) and
relaunch Word. Word will create a new Normal template on launch.

You didn't say what version of Word, so see here for how to find your Normal
template to do all this.

(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)
Link also tells you how to recover customizations if a new Normal is
necessary.

Steve. What Daiya said. My reply was far too lazy.

Doesn't matter anyhow. He got an answer on the WinWord boards. Since this
is a moderate FAQ, I hope he *isn't* using MacWord, as it would mean we
picked up another imported bug, apparently.
