Hi,

how can I change the alert sound in MacOS X? I can only find the sound
volume settings.

System Preferences -> Sound -> Sound Effects tab

You can add your own alert sounds by placing them into
~/Library/Sounds. I believe that they need to be in AIFF format.

It helps to be specific about what you are asking for.

AFAICT, the only way seems to be GUI scripting. I was unable to locate
a plist file on which a script could be run.
