Version: 2008
Processor: Intel
Just upgraded to Snow Leopard, and now I'm finding that Word crashes every time it loads a document with any .TIF images in it. Also, Word now won't allow adding .TIF images to a new document.
Word also seems very unstable with .JPG files as well.
Anyone else encountering this behavior? |

Me too. I found by saving a blank document, then adding the image, it
wouldn't crash. This was with jpeg file, by the way. It crashed three times
prior to saving.

Both of you, make sure you have applied the 12.2.1 update to Microsoft
Office.
Microsoft put out several fixes in anticipation of Snow Leopard. Without
them, you can expect to live in "interesting times".
I just inserted a GIF, a TIFF and a JPEG into Microsoft Word 2008 12.2.1 on
Snow Leopard: no problemo...
Hope this helps

I have updated office, but the instability with Word/.jpg files and Entourage with attachments continues. |

I guess OnyX is worth a try, although I'm not sure what "prebinding" is about and why that would help. In general I've been very disappointed with the stability of Word and (to a lesser extent) Excel under Snow Leopard. Word crashes on me at least twice per day, usually when trying to insert an image, open a file from an e-mail attachment, or use the "Save As..." command on files people have sent me.
I've tried a lot of things involving resolving duplicate fonts, cleaning font caches, and even starting from scratch with a new user account. |

Word '08 is more stable on Snow Leopard than on earlier Oses.
I would fire up OnyX and clear out the caches, if I were you.
You should also run Disk Utility and repair the permissions, and do a
power-off restart to trigger the system housekeeping tasks.
You may also have to update your prebinding.
You can Google for instructions on how to do any of these you don't already
know
Cheers

Make sure that you are using the RGB (24-bit) colour standard for anything
you want to use in Microsoft Office.
JPEG 2000 and any of the 36- or 48-bit colour standards will "often not
work" in various Microsoft Office applications.
Cheers
