I want to update my Virex... I have 7.2 from .mac and need 7.2.1

Can anyone let me know a place to get 7.2.1? It's not at .mac anymore.

you can email me at sallyshears at gmail dawt com or post here.

My first hit with Google is McAfee.

Virex is produced by McAfee.

If McAfee no longer have 7.2.1 available it is for the reason that they have
finally fixed various bugs that they had let languish in the program for
many years.

Two bugs that immediately come to mind with that version were, it interfered
with Sleep and prevented Macintosh systems running OS X from sleeping. The
second bug was that updates took forever to start and then download.

In a nutshell, you may want Virex, but you do not want an older version like
7.2.1.

So, sheesh, there you have it, in a nutshell.

Richard, I appreciate this response.

But story goes a little deeper. The later versions are incompatible
with Tiger. Apple's statement on .mac is "Virex 7.2.1 is compatible
with Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger. Virex 7.5.1 is only compatible with Mac OS X
version 10.1.5 through 10.3.9." (at mac.com, Member Center, Virex DAT
files...)

I'm happily running Virex 7.2.1 on a Tiger machine and want to put it
on another Tiger machine, but mislaid the installer. I run it myself,
from time to time, to check a specific file as I download it, I don't
leave Virex running in the background. For this use, I think Virex
7.2.1 works just fine.

Again, can anyone help me get the installer for Virex 7.2.1

TIA.

Apple says that a _newer_ version of Virex is only compatible with
_older_ Mac OS versions???? Be that as it may, McAfee says the current
version of Virex, 7.7, is compatible with 10.2.6 through "10.4 or
later."

Indeed. You can buy the newest version of Virex from McAfee to gain
functionality with 10.4.x. Unfortunately, for reasons I cannot
comprehend, McAfee insist upon selling Virex in lots of five (5) ONLY. I
have written to them and asked for other options. They kindly wrote back
that there are not going to be any other options. You buy five or none.

Apple offered Virex v7.2.1 for free to .Mac members.

So, Sally, (*no one else please!). If you were indeed a member of .Mac
and this is how you obtained Virex v7.2.1, then I see no reason I could
not help you out and send you a copy of the installer to replace the one
you lost. I have it in my backup sets.

Bounce back to me using my email address listed in this note's headers,
minus the '.invalid' stuff.
