Hello,
someone gave me a PowerMac G4 Quicksilver 800Mhz wth 256 Mb of RAM
running OSX 10.3.
I want to add a least 1 Gb of RAM.
The RAM should be PC133-333
There's a lot of Ram sold on Ebay, but in the Mac category they are
quite expensive, and cheaper in the PC one.
how could I be sure that if I buy one for PC it is compatible with both
(PC and MAC) ?

Is there a way to upgrade this mac to Leopard ?

Thanks

John

You need PC133, unbuffered, non-parity, RAM for a dual 800 G4. That unit has
three RAM slots, which can take a max of 512 MB per slot (according to
Apple's specs) or 1.5 GB, or 1 GB per slot. 512 MB DIMMs are around $50, from
reputable dealers. 1 GB DIMMs are around $100 from reputable dealers. In both
cases you can get 'em for a lot less if you look around, but you take your
chances with those guys.

RAM made for WIndows machines is identical to RAM made for Macs, so long as
the specs are the same.

The Official Apple Handbook says that Leopard requires 867 MHz CPUs. That
machine has 800 MHz CPUs. You'll need XPostFacto, and the machine may seem
slow, especially if you don't max the RAM.

Tiger will work without problems.

I've had good experiences buying RAM here:

I'd suggest taking the g4 up to 10.4.11 and leaving it there.
Actually, the g4 MDD that I'm typing this reply on seems
"good enough" on 10.3.9.
