Post subject: Sudden WMP sound stoppage Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsmedia>player>mac (more info?)
I've used WMP for a while and not had any problems, however recently I've had
the message "This file may not play correectly because it was compressed by
using a codec that is not supported" appear everytime I try to play a file,
EVEN with files that used to play before. The picture appears but the sound
does not. It's not muted either. I checked which codecs were used and I know
that they are supported, and I've tried removing and reinstalling WMP several
times with no result, including dumping the .plist. I should stress again
that this happens with files that played correctly before.

I have "exactly" the same problem. It happened to me yesterday. Even the
sample files that come with the player don't play sound anymore. I've tried
everything and nothing works! Anyone know what to do?

Incredible. It worked for me too.
Windows Media Player 9 on my new iMac running OSX 10.2.4 gave the
following message: "This file may not play correctly because it was
compressed by using a codec that is not supported" and I had no audio
but these files worked perfectly on my other macs running OSX 10.3.9.
After starting up Garageband 2 for the first time all is well.

Sorry for the mistake, it's OSX 10.4.2 naturally.
Too bad VLC doesn't play wmv files.

All of the sudden my wmv files won't play - i have 10.4.3 installed with windows media player 9 and i have been able to watch and listen to wmv fine untill all of the sudden no wmvs will play now. even the sample one microsoft gives you wont play. i have rebooted and reinstalled. any ideas

problems with sound - I seem to have problem while playing music DVDs- the sound skips. I tried different programs, none works properly. I don`t have any problems while listening to the music from cds. Any idea what`s wrong?
