The throbbing Spotlight icon means that the index is still being built.
This can take a long time, but it is possible that something has gone
wrong. How did you perform this upgrade? If you simply applied the
installer, perhaps that wasn't a very good choice; breakage often
results. Do an archive-and-install so as to generate a clean system.
Upgrade to 10.4.5 immediately onto that. m.
