It's now using all my Address Book phone numbers with the zero included
in the area code so of course every single number fails to work in
Skype.
So for example a phone number here in New Zealand is formatted:
(09) 8887777 (I've made that number up - it's not real). That's what we
dial here on regular phones to make a toll call within NZ. Or just
8887777 if it's a local number.
But in skype it needs to be dialled country code - area code minus the
zero - phone number because it's an international number for Skype (even
if Skype charges me local rates).
i.e. 64 7 8892621
But Skype is including the 0 making it 64 07 8892621, so of course I
can't call ANYONE unless I manually dial.
Way to go Skype!
Yesterday you knew to strip the zeros. Yesterday Skype worked. Today you
reveal you do no testing. Clap yourself on the back!
(and YES - I am pissed because this is on top of several other troubles
that I could REALLY do without)

Jamie Kahn Genet

Years? But It was working ok in Skype with previous versions. Or am I
going completely mad... *checks with family member* ...no, I'm not.
Something is very odd here.

I guess Skype have decided the hell with supporting other Nation's phone
number formats. It would be easier to live with had this always been the
case.
> Ditto Russia but goddamn, their out-of-area dialing is more-complicated!
Heh, everything is when it comes to Russia IME :-\

Well I don't always update immediately. But as I hadn't seen any chatter
about this highly annoying bug I went ahead and grabbed 2.7.0.330
....AAAAARRRGH!
Does anyone know where previous versions are archived? Surely I can't be
the only person needing to downgrade.
No way am I reformatting my entire Address Book when everything worked
the day before yesterday. Nope, Skype is going to have to fix this one.

Unlike most Americans, I do know where Luxembourg is.
But then I'm half Canadian and a quarter German.
But then that's probably irrelevant as all my education
was in the USA.
I think I did do something recently with an app that is either from or
has a website in Norway, and improperly connected that memory with
Skype. I did know Skype wasn't U.S. because I paid for some minutes in
Euros.

Hey. I've even been there... briefly.

Skype is owned by eBay, so no matter where it was developed or the company
is, it's a U.S. company now.
eBay bought them for much too much money, with the price depending upon
performance and they have done poorly since. It's very hard to make
money with free (or nearly free) phone calls.
Though I will say from my experience that since eBay bought them, their support
in general has gotten better. Before the purchase, IMHO it was not worth what
I paid for it.

So have I, and briefly is all you get unless you're standing still. I
was on a train between Liége and Frankfort.

What my sister does is her own damn business and if she married an American
I'd be OK with that. I married a Brit and she didn't mind at all...

I have had - finally - a response from Skype support who assure me
they're aware of the problem and are working to address it. I still
cannot understand why hey released this new version with such a
glaringly obvious bug

No, it's simply that toll free numbers have always had unblockable
caller id. The concept behind it is that if you paid for a call, you
had the right to know who is calling you.
Some companies used it to monitor devices. For example, when an oil tank
got low the furnace controller would "phone home" and they could identify
where to deliver the oil by the phone number.
Unfortunately one company went out of business and never disconnected the
furnaces. The new owner of the number got random calls from hungry furnaces.
Or someone would just call to hear the voice on the phone:
