Hi - I've just set-up a new iMAC with mail version 2.0.2 - There are 2
users.. but we share an email address from our ISP...
I was wondering if anyone knows a way we can set-up the mail so that
BOTH of us have access to the same inbox.. at the moment, who-ever
checks our emails ends up getting it on their profile only!
I've just downloaded Thunderbird to use for newsgroups, so if it's
easier to set-up on there, I have no problems switching my default mail
handler...
Cheers!

If you create aliases in one user that point to the actual files on the
other, you might be done.
It works for iTunes; I share one library of music and all playlists and
settings between two different computers by putting aliases on one
pointing to the other user account.
It's possible either program could refuse to use aliases, but in either
case you'd need the same program on both accounts.
UNLESS -- you set up the program on both and set up only one to delete
messages from the server. The problem with that is you won't see each
other's replies to the same message or other outgoing messages. Each
will only see his own.
Of course, the best option is to create at least one more e-mail
address. Most ISPs allow several per account. |

The problem is that the default setting of your Mail app is to delete
emails once they have been downloaded ... so they are not there when the
other person checks mail.
To get over this you need to go into Mail Preferences - accounts -
advanced - where you should see a check box for "remove copy from server
after retrieving message" which also allows you to set how long you
leave before they are actually deleted (you can't let them build up
forever!)

How about setting up fast user switching, and then create a user account for
email only. They both of you could switch to the mail account quickly and
easily whenever you needed/wanted to check email.
