My friend has a ibook, and after viewing a page on myspace.com, Safari
shut down and will not open again. We're tried to to an update for
Safari, but that did not fix it. When we try to open it, it takes 5
minutes or so of the window just sitting there frozen, and then finally
an error window comes up saying that it has unexpectedly closed. We
created a new profile and logged in and got Safari to open, so we then
went back to the first login and removed the prefs file, but it still
would not open. IE and Opera work fine, as do all other applications.
Any suggestions? Should we delete the cache? Is there a way to
reinstall Safari all together? Is it easy to move all the users files
to a new profile? I'm more of a PC person myself and she is not really
used to having to fuss with and fix her computer at all.

Try Cache Out X and Preferential Treatment. You can find these at
www.versiontracker.com. If these don't work, try a Permissions Repair from
Disk Utility (Hard Drive/Applications/Utilities). If this doesn't work, try
booting from the system install disk, but instead of installing anything,
immediately upon finishing startup, use the pulldown menus to have Disk
Utility repair the Hard Drive. If that doesn't work, I would consider
trashing all cache and preference files within that user's Library folder. Be
careful when messing around in Library. Make backup copies of all files that
you delete, and note where each went, so that you can roll back if necessary.

Thank you so much, that program worked. It was something in the cache
all along.
