| I have recently installed OSX on my G3 Wallstreet, but now find I can't
set it up to work in SCSI mode (thus linking it to a desktop) as I could
when it was running OS9. Am I missing somehting or is this the case?

Works fine with the right cable.

Howard & Patrick-
It should. I haven't tried it since installing OS X. I have an adapter
with a switch that lets me select the SCSI Disk mode.
But how do you set the SCSI address from OS X? If you don't have Classic
installed, the Control Panel won't work.

Isn't it actually the cable that does the trick in the case of SCSI
mode? I don't think you need a sw setting - at least in OS 9 you never
did. (And please do not top-post...)

There's at least big difference between 9 and X. At least what I've
found on all of my 7/8/9 systems is that you can plug a SCSI device in
while the machine is running, then turn on the SCSI device and the
machine will recognize it. You can also turn the SCSI device off and
then unplug it. Also, once plugged in, you could turn a SCSI device on
and it would mount, and then dismount it and repeat the process as much
as you wanted.
Note that this is not officially supported with SCSI, but it worked on
all of my older Macs from the SE30 through a Quicksilver and a number of
PowerBooks.
With OS X, you need to turn the SCSI device on and then reboot the
system before the system will mount it, and you need to shut the system
down before you physically remove a SCSI device. I've tried power
cycling a SCSI scanner on an OS X machine, and it didn't work; I've had
to reboot the machine every time I want to mount any SCSI device.
With OS X, I find that FireWire disk drives behave like SCSI did on OS
9/8/7, with the added benefit that FW is officially hot-swappable,
whereas SCSI really wasn't unless you had special adapters.
So, if you haven't already, try attaching the SCSI drive, TURN IT ON,
and THEN reboot your Wallstreet and see if the drive or other device
mounts.

The point here is that the OP wants to use the Wallstreet as a SCSI
drive (similar to FW Target Mode). The rest of what you say may hold,
though. I have little experience witth SCSI under Mac OS X, fortunately.
So for "SCSI Drive", over, read "Wallstreet"; for "Wallstreet", read
"desktop Mac OS X computer".
And - it should be the cable only that does this, as it contains one pin
more than the standard one, and that pin tells the relevant SCSI host to
go into disk mode. No special software ought to be necessary if it works
at all.
