I have a QS DP800 Mac that I cannot get running. When I attempt to boot
the machine with a Tiger DVD, I get an error message stating that cpu1
is dead, system failure.
As I see it, I need to either replace the cpu, or use the Mac as a boat
anchor. It would be a bloody expensive boat anchor. So, any links or
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

What happens when you attempt to boot the machine without the Tiger DVD? What
happens when you try to boot the machine from the original install disks?
If it is indeed a dead CPU, then a used logic board from eBay or similar
would be my best advice.

I don't have the original install disks. I have the borrowed copy of
the Tiger DVD, plus a couple of sets of 10.3 (which I did not try). I
did try a new copy of Ubuntu 5.10 for the Mac. When that CD is used to
boot, all that happens is that it is ejected and sceen stays blank.

I have had no luck finding either a used logicboard for the QS or a cpu
module on eBay. I'll try googling for other sources.

I would try the 10.3 disks to confirm the bad cpu diagnosis.

There are other sources, but the cost is probably not worthwhile. A brief
Google shows prices from $300-$700 for these logic boards. For that price, I
would part out the Quicksilver on eBay, and use the profits towards a new
machine.
If you could find a good used logic board on eBay for a decent price, it
could be worth rebuilding the machine.

I think that you're spot on. Lowest price I've found so far for
processor modules has been $245 and $370 for logic board at mac-pro.com
May just follow you advise about parting the thing out on eBay. I don't
need it as an overly expensive boat anchor.
