Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>games>strategic (more info?)

Hi,

Heroes III remains one of the few games (like Alien Crossfire, Star
Craft) that I can still play over and over again. This is partly
because of the good random map generator as well as downloadable maps.

When Heroes IV came out for Mac I heard that it was very buggy, kept
crashing etc, so I put off getting it and it eventually fell below my
'interest-radar'. Recently, I saw it being sold on ebay and my
interest was aroused again.

Anyone have any opinions on whether or not it is worth getting now?
Were the bugginess and crashing problems soved?

Well, one real bug they never fixed was that the AI sucks. I've rarely
had a decent game against computer players because they tend to do
stupid things. Like attack a group of monsters over and over with too
small of a party to take out those monsters. The computer players also
don't seem to build up their town(s) very well.

At least this is all what I remember. I haven't played the game in
quite some time.

But, you might want to wait and see about Heroes V. It looks like it
may be possible to get Heroes III & IV with it:

I just hope the same applies to the Mac version of the game.

Thanks for the info.
The article you quote seems to apply to the Mac versions too...
However, from that article it seems the version with III and IV will
only be available in the USA... I live in the UK. Still, there is a
good chance a few copies will get across to this side of the Atlantic.

If you have a good relationship with someone you trust on this side, get
them to buy it for you and mail it to you. I got a copy of CM:BB for a
friend in the UK and we handled it that way. By virtue of repayment, he got
me a book of equal value. It was an excellent book too.
