I've been trying to set up mail 3.5 to switch between two servers.

There seems to be a problem: when I send an email "using selected server"
- Mail sends the wrong user to the sever.

I had to delete the alternative account!

Can mail cope with more than one server?

It would be fine if it could pick up sequentially from each server and
deliver to one or other an currently configured.

I am new to MacOS - by preference I use RISC OS where thie sort of thing
is easy! But I want SWMBO's mail to go to her mac!

It's easy on the Mac as well; just not as familiar to you. I've got mail
on my machine set up to check 7 accounts spread across 4 different
servers, so it's certainly capable of what you say you want. I'm not
sure what you mean by "sends the wrong user to the server." Are you
saying that it tried to log in to server B using the credentials for
server A, or something else?

Yes, that appears to be what it is doing.

We had no problem receiving different boxes, but the problem was with
sending.

Initially we could not send at all, but under the Apple telephone support,
we deleted all reentered account details. POP and SMTP then worked from
the first server.

Then I entered account details for the second server, and could not send
to that. So I tried sending to the first server which had been working.
Got the response 'User rejected' - it was the user for the second account!

I deleted the second account and the first worked again.

The working account is Zen, our broadband supplier. The second account is
a Unix shell account (arachsys.com) where I have 5 domains hosted and all
the email is processed.

So did you set up two SMTP accounts in Mail, and configure your mail
accounts to use them? Do this using Mail > Preferences > Accounts >
(your account) > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Edit
Server List.

My SMTP accounts are labelled "server:username", eg
"smtp.mac.com:chrisridd", so they're easy to distinguish.

Also when you create a new message you get to choose which account/SMTP
server to use. Double check that's right too.
