MacSOUP 2.8.2 still gets stuck fetching headers if you set it to only
download a set number of articles, but NOT if you set to download the
lot. It just flickers endlessly in the progress window and nothing is
accomplished. It happens with several different groups, but not all of
them and not always with the affected ones.

This has happened with Forte's APN feed and now news.individual.net as
well Sad It never happened before moving to an Intel Mac running 10.5.2.

Looking in MacSOUP's TCP log shows the following or similar repeated
over and over again:

< 221 Message-ID data follows
> XHDR Message-ID 14675-14675
< 221 Message-ID data follows
> XHDR Message-ID 14675-14675
< 221 Message-ID data follows
> XHDR Message-ID 14675-14675

Just pages and pages of that depending on how long it takes me to notice
MacSOUP is misbehaving.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone knows a fix besides working around
the problem altogether by downloading all articles (which can take a
very long time in popular groups)? Stefan is aware of the problem
(though perhaps not the cause).

TIA,
Jamie Kahn Genet

I'm aware of the problem and the cause; it's simply a bug in MacSOUP. I
just didn't get around to releasing a bugfix update yet, sorry; I'll try
to do this as soon as I can.

I can't think of any other workaround except not using the option "Fetch
the last that many articles".

Hey, that's cool Stefan. I can live with that till the next version now
I know the situation. I'd thank you again for MacSOUP, but I really must
limit that to say one out of every five times you respond. I don't want
to seem too fanboy Very Happy
