Post subject: Mac RDC 2.0 support under W2K8 Terminal Services Gateway
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>mac>rdc, others (more info?)

I’m trying to find MS documentation outlining the extent to which the Mac RDC
2.0 client can be used with W2K8 Terminal Services Gateway (e.g., using port
443, etc.; see
http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/library/9da3742f-69...4476-b0) and how to configure it to do so.

Microsoft documentation seems to imply such functionality under the
following logic:

(1) The Mac RDC 2.0 client implements the RDP 6.0 protocols (see
http://mac.microsoft.com/MacOffice/en-US/Help/870500bb-d48d-4f90-b993-...a3f6f65);

(2) Windows 2008 TSG is compatible with clients that support RDP 6.0
protocols (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925876); this KB article
specifically provides links to the 32- and 64-bit Windows XP/2003-based
clients that support RDP 6.0 protocols and therefore work with W2K8 TSG;

(3) Therefore, the Mac RDC 2.0 client should work with W2K8 TSG.

Besides, it seems unintuitive that the Mac RDC 2.0 client (to be released
well after the introduction of the RDP 6.1 protocols) should be
incompatible/less functional under W2K8 TSG. Yet, I can’t find anywhere in
the Microsoft documentation an explicit statement of support/functionality
for the Mac RDC 2.0 client under W2K8 TSG.

The new Vista SP1, W2K8, and XP SP3 Remote Desktop Client supports the RDP
6.1 protocols (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951616) and those are the
preferred clients with W2K8 TSG, adding support for TS Web Access
(http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/library/95258ce8-5ddd-42cb-9e95-cec19ef4f43d1033.mspx), signed RDP files, EasyPrint, NLA, etc.

So my specific questions are:

(a) What is the Mac RDC 2.0 functionality under W2K8 TSG and, if not
already, when will it implement the full RDP 6.1 protocols (to provide
functionality on par with the Windows RDC 6.1 clients.

(b) Where does Microsoft document how to configure the Mac RDC 2.0 client to
provide equivalent Windows RDC 6.1 client functionality?

Thanks!

I see you've already found the Microsoft Connect website for the RDC 2.0
beta. That's the best place to get answers.

Good luck!

Thanks Bill ... no one has responded to my Connect posting as yet; do you
know someone within your Mac/Windows interop group who has insight into my
issue/concern? I've raised similar interop issues in previous Connect
postings and had other chime in that the issues were also of concern to them,
but so far no Microsoft response ... that's one of the reasons for trying the
managed newsgroups. Smile

I'll see what I can do by sending your message to someone who's
responsible for documentation for RDC. Can't guarantee anything but I'll
ask that he post on the Connect website.

Have you found an answer to this yet?

Hi Brian ... not yet, but I believe that MS understands the business needs
for such functionality from both the customer and their own marketing
perspectives. On the Connect site, others have made similar inquires/posts.
