anyone else actually play this?
your thoughts?
I find the interface - annoying at best.
The uncontrollable camera angle often places objects (rocks, walks or
other fixed items) between the main character and the combat.
Board/scene/section changes often change orientation of the main
character, so that the movement key for forward changes.
Ex: On the castle wall with gandalf - trying to stop the orcs from
overrunning the place, there are 5 'sections' a central wall section, 2
on the right and 2 on the left. When moving from one section to the
other, the orientation changes so the forward key changes. This causes
'random' movement, and often ends up causing the main character to run
into objects.
camera angle - On the same level, the orcs are throwing flaming rocks
(from catapults) at the walls. These flaming rocks often (as many as 10
times during one attempt) come between the camera and the main character
(gandalf) making it impossible to see the entire screen, except for a
'blinding' light. This makes controlling the character (for combat
purposes) impossible since you can not see where the enemy(ies) are.
Also the "distance" between check points on a level is often too far.
(check points are places where if you die you can restart).
While playing Aragorn you have to go through a series of undead combats.
check point
Then fight the undead king - which is a difficult battle - then run out
of the caverns before they collapse - stopping to combat more undead on
the way.
no check point after the undead king battle - so.. if you quit the game
you have to start all over at the battle before trying to run out of the
caves -
repetitive, and frustrating - I have not been able to get out of the
caves yet - and I probably never will as I do not plan on playing this
game anymore. |

Yep, as a casual gamer, I agree. I'm sure there will be "experts" that will
say the King of the Deads level can be easily done but some time ago, I just
gave up. I was starting to develop pain in my right wrist from those intense
gaming sessions, trying to get past this level. I think that you kinda get
used to the other annoyances that you mention but the lack of an appropriate
check point in the King of the Deads level seems to be an oversight resulting
from a lack of proper testing...

I have only played this game on the PlayStation 2 and on the PS 2 this
game is one of my favourites, I do agree that when one has to fight the
undead king that it is diffcult, but it is doable when one is playing
this game on the PS 2 {or Xbox I suppose}. Some games are best played on
something like the PS2, since they use a game controller instead of a
key board and the games are usually designed well for playing on the PS
2.
I don't think I would want to try to play a lot of games on my Mac, also
this game exists for the PC too and one of my friends has it for his
PC...he gave up trying to play this game with his PC.
You are just bettter off playing these sort of game son the PS 2 or
whatever not a Mac or PC.

Aren't there controllers of that type available for computers? I don't know,
but it seems that I've seen them advertised.

Yes, they have such controllers for computers. I even saw some (from
Kennsington, I believe) at a Mac store. They connect to the USB port.
