| I have been having problems connecting my MacBook Pro via DVI to my LG
LCD Display.
I spoke with LG (Canada) and they said they do not support Apple
computers.
Just thought I'd let you know before you go out and spend any money on
an LG display.

The LG RM-23LZ50 23 Inch LCD display / TV comes with a DVI connector.
>From the looks of it, it is a DVI-D Analog & Digital Single connector.
LG Supplies two cables for the DVI connector. One is DVI to DVI the
other is a DVI to SVGA (DB15) cable.
When the DVI to DVI cable is connected to the DVI connector of my
MacBook Pro, the LG Display pops up a box that says, "Going to DPM
mode.".
The screen then goes black. In the System Prefrences, Display panel
no second screen is seen.
I tried the DVI to SVGA (DB15) adaptor that Apple supplies and used
the LG DVI to VGA/XGA Cable to connect the computer to the screen.
This works however the video quality is poor. If I understand the VGA/
XGA standard the signal is analog, and that would explain the poor
video quality.
I do believe this should work, but then LG won't acknowledge that the
issue may be with their cable or display.
What worries me most is LG (Canada)s statement of not supporting Apple
displays.
>From what I understand if one disasembles an Apple Cinima Display, it
is manufactured by LG and Philips.
If you have any suggestions on how to get this working please let me
know.
A Google search for "LG Going to DPM mode", results in some
interesting, but maybe irrelivant results on a bug that was discovered
in some LG display software.
I have tried several resolutions and the autodectect display in the
display panel but with no sucess, F7 does nothing either. |

No, Apple's display partner is Samsung. Apple invested $100M in a
display manufacturing plant with Samsung several years ago.

Screw 'em. Take it back where you bought it and exchange it for another
one from a different manufacturer. Bring your laptop and test any
monitor you buy.

I will I do have a bunch of Apple displays...
I unfortunantly don't have a PC with a DVI output to test against. |

Tell LG they will either make it work or accept the display back for a
full refund. What they told you is ridiculous. |

Oh no problem.
LG displays are complete shite. I'd never spend the money on one.

I would probably try it first to see if it helps.. but to pay for
something that I'm not sure is going to help...
If I knew what the monitor specs were, then I guess that would be of
use if I had this program.
Many thanks for the pointer. |

I do have sensitive eyes... I work in medical imaging and video
quality is everything.
So when I go home to watch tv or work on a monitor my eyes come with
me.
Component video is good but is not the same resolution as the DVI
claimes to be.
SVideo sucks and the VGA / SVGA / XGA / WXGA what ever it is.. isn't
crisp.
There is no reason the DVI shouldn't be as crisp and sharp as my
laptops LCD screen. |

You've either got a lousy cable or very high standards for video
quality. I have a mini connected to a plasma TV via a Monoprice DVI/VGA
cable and the video quality is excellent. How does your LG look with a
component video input? |

My Point exactly.. How the hell can LG say they don't support the Mac?

In case there was any doubt that LG was the manufacturer for Apples

So how does a tech working for LG (Canada) say, "We don't support
Apple."? |
