I saw your post about Boddingtons. I've never tried it, although it's
available here. Another one with a widget is Kilkenny, which is pretty
good. There's also Old Speckled Hen, which doesn't have a widget, but
manages to get a good taste out of the tin.

It's one of my wife's favorite take-home brews. It is amazing, with
that little gizmo inside. For a canned beer it is a unique kind of
carbonation.

God I haven't had any Lion Brown in ...like ten years. It's not exactly
highly regarded here - we used to buy it as Uni students cause it was so
dirt cheap. Well each to there own. Certainly there's far worse -

LOL! XXXX? Being a Beer snob I'm going to have to shun you from now on.
But after knocking back a few maybe we can be friends again...
BTW - some of my favourite NZ beers (with some links this time to help
out):

The story i was given on my visit to the US of A some thirty years after
the prohibition era was that the rubbish beer was because that was all
that was allowed in prohibition days. And they (who?) decided to keep
it that way after abandoning prohibition. However there were proper
strength English beers imported in those days. Dunno what happens now.

I can't guess about the veracity of all these ideas, but that one makes
perfect sense. Light lagers and pilsners might have been easier or
quicker to brew in a illegal concern, say the back of a furniture store
or something.

Au contraire. Most American beer -- at least from the major breweries,
including Anheuser-Busch -- are made with 30-40% rice or corn instead of the
100% malted barley/wheat/rye grains used by most of the "craft"
microbreweries.

"Or corn". I can go with corn. At least in my limited perspective there
was no rice. It'll take your word for it, since I don't brew the
stuff, but I'd prefer a link to the actual named contents.

I love Japanese sake, and it is totally rice and water. And it doesn't
taste anything like horse piss. I think these brewers, despite the
rice/corn content, have to WORK to get that full flavor of horse piss.

When speaking of beer in Austin, I have got to mention my favorite place to
enjoy beer, BB Rover's in northwest Austin. It's on Jollyville Road just
north of Oak Knoll. They have over 350 different beers available in bottles
and around 15 on draught. If you have 100 diffeent beers there you become
eligible for the "101 Club" (that last beer is on the house) and on Labor Day
can attend the special 101 Club event, open only to members and guests, and
all the beer and food is on the house!
