I must have missed it somehow. It's on the list (residing on my iPhone
for easy access) now though. Thanks! : )

Yep! That's pretty much my wife's take on it (she lived in Germany until
immigrating here to live with me). My prior beer experience was pretty
much limited to American brands, minus the occasional mass-produced
Heineken, or what-have-you; and I'm not all that interested in sticking
to that selection this time around. : )

Nah, I know why he'd say that. It's a sweet-tasting American beer, best
served ice-cold in August by a waitress with large bosoms and no bra.
Good working class drink-till-you-fall-down beer. It doesn't have that
nice hoppy pr malty taste that the, er, aficionados like to
sip-gently-till-they-fall-down.

Have I mentioned lately that "bosom(s)" is one of my favorite words in
the English language? Thanks for stimulating another wicked smile, WO!

Ever tried New Zealand beer? Speight's Old Dark is a favourite in winter
and Montieth's Black runs a close second. But you still can't beat a
pint of Guinness on a cold day! Smile

No that you mention it, I've never tried any of those! I'll add them to
the list. Thanks. : )

I think, in the end, that Guinness is my favourite beer of. We have a
couple of places here that treat it seriously (although one serves it
way too cold) and know how to pour it and there's one girl can even draw
shamrocks in the head.

A pint of porter's your best man.

[Rolling Rock is a summer beer, green long-neck bottle dripping with
condensation and that sweet American beer taste and girls in tight very
short shorts ...]

You're right: it's the *name* of a beer brewery. The liquid *inside*
the bottle is actually the beer. The variety of beer they have become
known by is their stout... beer.

"The basics of brewing beer are shared across national and cultural
boundaries and are commonly categorised into two main types—the
globally popular pale lagers and the regionally distinct ales which are
further categorised into other varieties such as pale ale, stout and
brown ale. The strength of beer may range from less than 1% abv
(alcohol by volume) to over 20% abv in rare cases, though is usually
around 4% to 6% abv.

Ah ok. Well it'll still be interesting for me. The entire beer
experience is, this time around. My prior beer experience was over a
decade ago, and was pretty much limited to Bud, or whatever else I could
get my hands on, and just for the sol purpose of getting smashed on a
weekend. : ) I didn't care much about the taste back then; but today,
I'm all about it!

We home brewers tend to distinguish stout from beer, Under beer, we tend
to use terms like "new" and "old" (an Australian distinction between the
lighter and darker beers) or simply light and dark. A lot simply depends
on the roast. But when it gets to be so dark as stout, it is well... a
stout and we tend not to call it a beer any more.

But it is just a bit of harmless terminology. As Xmas approaches I try
to build up to a crescendo of awkwardness to be prepared for the vicious
fights on the day. What we are doing this year is all getting into a
huge boxing ring in a sound proof gym and when the bell goes, just going
for each other with no rules, kids not spared a thing. Never mind
presents, a good kick to the shins is what they will get.

O and we play the Johnny Cash song about bizarre ways of toughening them
up: "My name is Sue" at full blast.
