Post subject: Image Map creatation program for Mac.
Archived from groups: alt>html, others (more info?)

Hi all

I once had a very simple program that would allow me to create image
maps for the web. It was on an older Mac that I had that was given away
several years ago. Now I am in need of such a program again. It can be
for either Mac OSX or an earlier operating system. Does not need to
fancy or very complicated. Please reply if you know of a program. I did
a search of web and found several sites that provided links to such
programs, but most it not all of these were outdated.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the links. I will take a look at both.

The commercial applications like Dreamweaver and GoLive of course have
this ability built in - simply put the image on the page and draw
clickable areas over the top.

Personally I find ColorIt! much easier to use than Photoshop. I still
use the version I got for free on a magazine cover disk and then
updgraded to version 4. It does everything I need from simple web
graphics through to full CMYK press images (although you can't edit
CMYK images since it displays them only as separate channels). Surprised)

They've evidently been working on a Mac OS X version, which would be
great for when I'm forced to upgrade from Mac OS 9, but it's been two
years with no news (apart from minor updates to say it still works in
Mac OS X 10.4's Classic). They say they have to rewrite a lot of it,
which isn't surprising. Surprised(

From their FAQ ...

Is there a version of Color It! for Mac OS X?

We are well along on producing a "Carbonized" version of
Color It! to run native under Mac OS X, an enormous effort
that has taken over a year. While a date has not been set
as to when the OS X version will be available, it should
be fairly soon. In the interim, all of our products run
great in Classic mode under Mac OS X. Color It! also runs
in any System version from 7.0 to 9.2.2.

Will the OS X version of Color It! work with Macs with
Intel processors?

The OS X version of Color It! will run on all Intel-based
Macs. The Intel Macs will include a technology called
Rosetta, which allows programs written to run on Macs with
a PowerPC processor to run on a Mac with an Intel processor.
The process is not like running Classic, but will be
completely transparent to users--you just double-click on a
PowerPC program and it runs. Simple as that!

ColorIt! does run under Mac OS X, but it has some problems of not being
able to preview things like brightness, making it difficult to use.
Surprised(

ColorIt! does Image Map creation?

No, it's purely bitmap image editing.

Sorry, I / we hijacked the original topic and went off on a side step
about graphics applications.

Um, I just opened ColorIt! 4.0.1 under Classic and I see Web Map Palette
under the Tools menu. I just drew a circle on a photo and it asked for a
URL.

You're right, it does do maps for web use, creating the HTML code in a
couple of different formats. That's a menu option I've never noticed
before. I do all the image map bits in DreamWeaver of GoLive anyway.

I didn't go off topic then. Surprised)
But ColourIt! is probably a bit expensive JUST to do web image maps,
especially since as iehsmith says they have another product especially
for doing that which is hopefully cheaper (I haven't looked).

You can probably find something even cheaper / free by doing a search
