Hi. I am running Mac OS 10.3.9 and Internet Explorer version 5.2.3.
Today, i started having troubles with IE. When I run the application,
it looks for msn.com but does not successfully load in the page.
Instead, the little spinning mac icon that indicates something is
happening continues to spin. During this time, I can't select a
bookmark or type in a new address in the field at the top of IE. I
therefore can't access any web sites. It was working fine yesterday but
something changed today. In Mac OS 9, I knew, in a case like this, I
could trash the IE preferences files. However, with OS X, I have no
idea if I can trash some files to fix IE's behavior. Does anyone have
an opinion?
Thanks,
Mirsky |

You should be able to stop it trying to do whatever it is trying to do
by hitting Cmd-. (That's Command-period. Or try the Escape key, which in
some apps acts as an equivalent.
If it cannot load what you've configured as your homepage, just tell it
to not load a 'homepage' when you open a new window.

I believe the IE perfs file under Mac OS X is
~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.explorer.plist
You could remove it, but it sounds to me like you might simply have a
network problem (which doesn't even have to be *your* network problem -
could be M$' own servers), in which case the prefs file is irrelavent.

Surre: upgrade to a browser that is not from the Stone Age. iCab,
Firefox, Opera, Safari, Mozilla, OmniWeb, Camino, whatever. MacIE hasn't
been worked on for some 4 years and has officially been declared dead by
Microsoft. In another 2 days or so they'll even stop offering it for
download.
Now if they'd only do the same with WinIE.

Do you know which of those browsers will import Internet Explorer's
Favorites? One reason I don't use Safari as my main browser is that I
can't transfer my Favorites from IE into Safari's bookmarks.
Thanks,

Download the free Safari Enhancer, which will let you import them:
http://www.celestialfrontiers.com/safari_enhancer.php
Be sure to get the one that's specified for your version of Safari.

I know iCab does. I can't tell you about the others because I hardly
user browsers for bookmarks/'favorites'. I use URLM [URLManager] for
that. It lets me handle bookmarks independant of whatever browser I
happen to be using. Freedom.
I must be using URLM for about 10 years by now. It never failed me.
