I'm curious what others use under Leopard for FTP.

Personally I'm a long time devotee of Fetch (simple, backwards
compatible with older versions of OSX, it works, no frills, clean UI),
though I also like Cyberduck (free, feature packed for it's price,
actively maintained), and am enjoying the nostalgia of trying out the
new v3 of NetFinder (lovely old style Finder-like way of working) which
has FINALLY been updated after five years of being ignored... which
kinda puts me off making an investment in it, but I DO like NetFinder's
UI a lot.

What do you guys think? Or is there a better FTP app I ought to try?

Regards,
Jamie Kahn Genet

Transmit

I was a big fan of Fetch (a long time ago) but switched to NetFinder for
the Mac OS 9 like interface. I finally gave up on NetFinder and switched
to RBrowser. I found RBrowser had some nice features but didn't like how
slow it was over SSH and that it put hidden files on the remote server
(if you have access).

I eventually found my way to Transmit and have never been happier.

I mostly use ncftp, but also use Fetch. Sometimes I use the built-in
FTP/SFTP client in TextWrangler as well.

Fetch is my favorite GUI FTP client - hands down.

Interarchy. Mostly because I bought a license a long long long long time
ago.

I happily used Fetch for many years. However, one of my main uses is to
edit various kinds of text files on a remote server, and at some point
Fetch gained a feature that made this much, much more painful. Fetch
gained the ability to edit graphics files in a graphics editor.
Unfortunately, as a side effect if it wasn't sure what kind of file you
were trying to edit it asks, and there is no setting for "always assume
text, never ask". The resulting frequent dialog boxes drive me nuts. A
request for a new preference to work around this went unanswered. I was
also unhappy that so many important settings were global instead of
specific to a bookmark. So I reluctantly switched (I still think Fetch
is excellent, it's just not the best choice for my needs).

After trying various alternatives I now use Yummy FTP and am very happy
with it. It is clean, robust, configurable and has excellent support.

I use ncftp, a free command-line ftp client. I set up CyberDuck for the
wife, and we used to use Anarchie, but I've never found a reason _not_
to use ncftp in OS X (or Linux). You can put and get whole directory
structures, like your website, say.

I'm a long-time Interarchy user and supporter as well. Unfortunately,
after getting nowhere despite many back-and-forth interactions with the
Interarchy team, pleading with them for better support for proxies,
Interarchy's lack of robust proxy support prevented me from continuing
to use it years ago. I switched to Fetch way back then, and haven't
looked back since.

Heh, at least you've bothered to put some content up (the photos got a
chuckle). wizardling.geek.nz remains empty - very sad of me. I really
ought to do SOMETHING, if only an iWeb page.
