I have noticed several people having problems with this for the past
two years. I have Entourage 2004 with an Exchange account. No POP
accounts are set up at all. When I initially set up this account (as an
upgrade from Entourage X) I started having this problem. I deleted the
identity and created a brand new one. This seemed to work...for about a
month. Now all of a sudden all new emails are going into the Inbox in
Folders On My Computer again. This is really frustrating, as I can't go
deleting and creating new identities every month. I am also surprised
that this problem has been raised since 2004 and it seems that
Microsoft has not done a thing to fix it. Has ANYONE found a solution
yet? |

There are no rules whatsoever set up with this account, and we are not
using a Mailing List Manager. |

As I stated in my original post, there are numerous posts, spanning
almost two years, about this problem on this very list. There are even
more posts on various other lists. It surprises me that Nobody at
Microsoft seems to have made any attempts to address the issue. I can't
find anything about it anywhere on Microsoft's support site, yet, if
the folks from Microsoft to visit these newsgroups, surely at least one
of them would be aware of this problem.
Sorry, if it sounds like I am ranting. It's just that the one Mac that
decided to have this problem is the one that belongs to the company
owner. |

You hit the nail on the head. There were two entries in the mailing
list manager. My boss swears he has no idea how they got there. As soon
as I deleted them, the email started going to the correct folder.
Thanks. Is is possible that someone could send an email that would
automatically add a filter to the Mailing List Manager? |

Never having suffered from this problem, I can't be sure that it is a
programme problem or a configuration problem.
Check for mail rules that move messages and have defaulted to the Inbox,
also check for a Mailing list Manager entry that is moving all your mail to
the inbox - entries in the MLM are easily created by accident when you mark
a message as 'not junk', due to some ambiguous wording in the dialogs
displayed.
If a message direct to you is used to form an MLM entry, and the target
folder is not changed from the default Inbox, then all mail to you will be
redirected to the Inbox.

I haven't seen this EXACT problem, but we have seem some randomness
occurring with inbound messages (from Exchange) landing in the Drafts folder
in "Folders On My Computer". Which is a bit... useless... isn't it? I have
found no explanation for that, yet.

Ok, so rules are out, but just check under 'Mailing List Manager' (under the
'Tools' menu), and see if there any entries in there - as I explained, it is
all too easy to set up an entry by accident.
If there are any listed, disable or delete them and see if the situation
improves.

No they couldn't - Entourage is very good about not auto-running anything
received by mail.
What has probably happened is that your boss hit the "not junk" button some
time with a piece of mail selected that was addressed to himself. He would
then be offered several options to deal with it, including one that says
"Create a Mailing List Rule", which is ambiguous, as it creates Mailing List
Manager entries, not Mail Rules. Creating a MLM entry with a mail addressed
directly to you will create a filter for all mail directly addressed to you,
and the default destination for a new MLM entry is the Inbox.

Thanks for this tip as I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out
why my IMAP email started going to the main inbox.

I've had this situation happen twice over the past few weeks, and in both
cases it was caused by an MLM entry created through hasty usage of the Junk
Mail panel.
By eliminating the offending MLM entry (don't just uncheck it, but delete it
entirely) it will resolve the issue.
