If I correctly remember charts are always printed as a black (dark) nutation
on white (bright) bacground therefore you can use any scaner with minimal
1200 dpi optical resolution. During scan you have to adjust level of
brighness and darkness color space reduced to b&w and resolution which
depends on color space. Its all. If you want to reprint theme so have to
scan charts with resolution no less then 300 dpi for grayscale or 600 dpi
for b&w color space.
In my humble opinion in this case more important then hardware is software -
usualy it is stand alone aplication, but sometimes there is a twain plug-in
as well. I think that you have to think about ADF (Auto Document Feeder) if
you are going to scan a lot of sheets at ones and you do not want to spend
to much time on changing sheets.
Epson 4990 is really to good to these things.
